Stylish suits on the catwalk

If you missed Keira Knightley's new movie at the latest BFI London Film Festival, don't be disheartened, you will be able to watch Colette in the UK later in January.

Amongst a wide range of high revenue fantasy films, this refreshing film, directed by Wash Westmoreland, portraits the life of Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette (28 January 1873 – 3 August 1954), a French novelist quite ahead of her time, who empowered herself against patriarchy in Parisian society.

Costume designer Andrea Flesch assembled more than 50 outfits to define the title character, and to mark her evolution, Colette wears a suit.

A woman dressed in classic menswear clothing always delivers a strong message. Who can forget Donna Karan's Spring 1992 ad campaign of the inauguration of the first female president?

Yes, the model was wearing a pin-stripped suit. Browsing the latest Spring 2019 catwalk shows, it's interesting to spot different interpretations of it, from edgy (Alexander McQueen) to playful (Moschino), and simply brilliant (Giambattista Valli).

But whether the suit is classic (Max Mara) or irreverent (Dundas), women definitely wear a suit in their own individual way. Unlike men, we talk, move and lead with an inimitable style and that should be conveyed by our suits, don't you agree?
