Love from Venice

The fashion world is celebrating the latest haute couture show by Dolce & Gabbana in Venice. It was a magical moment when different elements came together to create a truly exceptional experience. The magnificent St. Marks Square was the backdrop of a show marked by extravagant opulence.

Heaven and earth did come together for the occasion, with a golden sunset interrupted by menacing clouds, rain, a rainbow and even a lighting strike while the models walked down the catwalk ironically to Vivaldi’s ‘Four Seasons’.

Jennifer Hudson actually sang Nessun Dorma before the collection was presented, much to the delight of the audience, which included other stars such as Jennifer Lopez, Monica Bellucci, Dame Helen Mirren, Christian Bale, Sean Combs and many others.

Celebrity children brightened up the show in a debutante kind of style: Deva, (daughter of Monica Bellucci and Vincent Cassel), Emmeline (daughter of Christian Bale), Chance, Jessie James and D’Lila Star (daughters of Sean Combs), and Leni (daughter of Heidi Klum).

“Everyone thinks couture is for the old, but that’s not how it has to be.” Dolce & Gabbana

Dolce & Gabbana want to bring couture to a whole new generation. The hair style of the models was definitely youthful, with different colours matching the elaborate dresses in georgette and tulle, with detailed embroidery, reminiscent of the kaleidoscopic patterns of Murano glass.

Italy has a rich cultural heritage, and Venice is a beloved city, attracting many tourists to the Film Festival, its renowned art Biennale, and colourful carnival celebrations, with much imitated masks and extravagant costumes.

Valentino’s creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli, also chose Venice to present his latest collection for the maison last month. One thing's for sure, Italians do know how to put on a show!
