British Fashion Stars

This blog post is not just about British Fashion Awards winners, but all the stars of the evening, the brightest of them all was undoubtedly Meghan Markle, who presented Clare Waight Keller the award for womenswear designer of the year.

The artistic director at Givenchy was catapulted into stardom by designing Markle's much acclaimed royal wedding dress. For the evening at the Royal Albert Hall, the Duchess of Sussex appeared onstage wearing an elegant Givenchy haute couture black gown.

My predictions for the British Fashion Awards in October were not far off the mark. It was possible to anticipate most winners but there are some corrections to be made: the accessories designer of the year was not Miuccia Prada but Demna Gvasalia for Balenciaga;

(Prada received an outstanding achievement award instead); the business leader was Marco Bizzarri for Gucci and not Jose Neves for Farfetch, and the designer of the year was Pierpaolo Piccioli for Valentino and not Alessandro Michele for Gucci. For the full list of winners, please click here.

The celebration of British fashion extended onto the red carpet, none of my selected dresses made an appearance, but some celebrities did choose to wear the British designers I have suggested for the occasion.

A few of them ended up wearing their own designs themselves, but the best way to promote a brand is still to dress a celebrity who is able to reach a much wider audience. The following gallery is a selection of the most stunning looks by British designers on the red carpet last night.
