Couture Autumn 2022

Updated: Nov 6, 2022

It’s undeniable that nature will become more and more precious as climate change pushes humanity to come up with different ways of doing business, much more circular and environmentally friendly.

Fashion is always in tune with what’s going on in the world and the latest haute couture shows in Paris for Autumn 2022 include different motives evocative of beautifully landscaped gardens, from delicate leaves at Chanel to full-blown flowers at Rahul Mishra and Valentino.

I do love shining evening dresses that always remind me of Halston, and the latest haute couture shows include some fine examples, from the elaborate creative expression of Daniel Roseberry at Schiaparelli to the innovative approach by Kim Jones at Fendi. But my favourite is the graceful light lavender dress by Armani Privé.

  • Fendi
  • Elie Saab

Demure white dresses also graced the catwalk, even if only sprinkled here and there, there’s a sense of elegant purity. Giambattista Valli proposes a feminine belle-de-jour, with feathers and bows while Idris van Herpen presents a poetic version of the naked dress.

There’s an allusion to the Roaring Twenties with layered skirts and dresses as well as sparkling fringes. Elie Saab’s vision is reminiscent of otherworldly tales and the early days of Hollywood.

Valentino presented one of the strongest shows this season, and invited his couturiers to take the catwalk with him at the end of the show, a touching gesture and acknowledgement of the incredible mastery of those who are skilled enough to produce couture.

Last, but certainly not least, the little black dress becomes highly textured. Christian Dior made old fashioned shapes and volumes look not only enchanting but highly desirable. Velvet and lace take centre stage and I particularly love some of Ronald van der Kamp dresses.
