Red carpet events around the world are no longer taking place due to the current pandemic. The most eagerly awaited event in the fashion industry is undoubtedly the Met Gala in New York. It usually takes place at the beginning of May, but it has been postponed indefinitely.
Throughout the years, it has been evolving dramatically propelling a media frenzy around it. It was the subject of its own documentary, The First Monday in May, and it continues to excite celebrity stylists, who have the freedom to be more and more daring.
This year’s theme is About Time: Fashion and Duration, an ironic choice considering many voices in the fashion industry are now saying it’s about time fashion changes the way it operates, with sustainability at the forefront of many brands’ agenda.
On the other hand, this theme could also be interpreted as an open invitation to wear vintage fashion and promote other ways of doing business.
Certainly, there are many ways of looking at it. In any case, no one can deny the incredible power of the Met Gala to generate income and visibility not only for charity, but for the stars themselves and the fashion industry as a whole.
