The most renowned red carpet event in the world for those who love fashion returned to its traditional schedule, the first Monday of May. The theme In America: An Anthology of Fashion was celebrated in New York by many stars and it was certainly difficult to select my favourite looks.
Kim Kardashian channeled old Hollywood glamour with a vintage Jean Louis dress, famously worn by Marilyn Monroe while singing happy birthday to 'Mr President', John F. Kennedy, in May 1962. This was an homage to the ultimate American pin-up girl and to a truly timeless style.
Blake Lively paid tribute to the Statue of Liberty and the values it represents with a bespoke Versace gown, which transformed on the red carpet and was adorned with meaningful symbolic details. The atmosphere of the event was joyful, and there was a renewed sense of enthusiasm about the beloved Cinderella moment.
Celebrity stylists pulled out all the stops to ensure their clients looked absolutely amazing. The Met Gala is a special opportunity to take risks and be bold. Initially, I thought of selecting only a top 10 favourite looks but couldn't resist to add 5 more to the equation.
There is a documentary about the Met Gala that is worth watching, if you want to learn more about all the incredible work that goes on behind the scenes to make this event, and related exhibitions, so successful. It was interesting to see Miranda Kerr alluding to cinema history. Who can forget Grace Kelly's incredible style in "To Catch a Thief"?
