AI Fake Age

AI (Artificial Intelligence) has already begun making significant waves in the fashion industry, and its impact is only expected to grow in the coming years. As someone with a keen interest in fashion and intrigued by the potential of AI, I can't help but share my personal insights on how this powerful technology will shape the future of fashion and humanity.

One of the most notable ways AI is set to revolutionise the fashion industry is through personalised recommendations. In the past, consumers often had to spend hours browsing through countless racks or scrolling through numerous web pages to find the perfect outfit. But now, thanks to AI algorithms that analyse vast amounts of data, fashion brands can understand individual preferences better than ever before.

These algorithms take into account factors such as past purchases, browsing history, and even social media activity to curate personalised recommendations tailored to each customer's unique style. This level of personalisation not only enhances the shopping experience but also increases customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Furthermore, AI has the potential to completely transform the design and production processes in fashion. Traditionally, designers would rely heavily on their own creativity and inspiration to create new collections. However, AI algorithms can now assist in generating design ideas, creating patterns, and even suggesting innovative fabric combinations.

Anne-Liese Prem, Founder of Tomorrow Stories, an agency focusing on brand strategy and future trends, from Web 3.0 to AI and digital fashion, shared a post about Tilly, the world's first AI-powered designer. Tilly Talbot was unveiled during Milan Design Week by Australian company Studio Snoop.

"Tilly works under the position of "innovation designer" and collaborates with the human members of the team to conceive design objects. ❗️But here is where an AI "team member" could really make a difference: 🌱 Tilly has been programmed with Studio Snoop's core values, which include "human-centred design" and prioritising nature. “Tilly will challenge you on materials. If you try to come up with something not great for the environment, she’ll tell you.”

This collaboration between human creativity and AI-driven insights can lead to the birth of entirely new design aesthetics and concepts that were previously unimaginable. It allows designers to break free from the constraints of their own perspectives and tap into a vast pool of data and trends, resulting in fresh and exciting fashion offerings.

Sustainability is a pressing issue in the fashion industry, and AI has the potential to play a significant role in driving positive change. By analysing vast amounts of data on materials, production processes, and consumer behaviour, AI can identify areas where improvements can be made to reduce waste, optimise energy consumption, and promote eco-friendly practices.

Anne-Liese Prem also draw attention to the latest edition of Vogue Italia. A real model (Bella Hadid), a real photographer (Carlijn Jacobs) and real stylists combined their work with imagery generated by AI artist Chad Nelson using DALL-E 2 (ChatGPT).

Another area where AI is making waves is in the realm of virtual try-on technology. Gone are the days when customers had to rely solely on their imagination or the fit models displayed on websites to gauge how a garment would look on them.

AI-powered virtual try-on solutions leverage computer vision and body scanning technologies to create realistic and accurate representations of how clothes would fit and look on an individual's unique body shape. I've experienced this myself while attending Vogue x Snapshat Redefining the Body in Regent street, London, earlier this year.

While the potential benefits of AI in the fashion industry are undoubtedly exciting, it's important to acknowledge and address the challenges and concerns that come along with this technology. As AI becomes more prevalent, there is a risk that certain tasks may become automated, resulting in a homogenisation of design aesthetics.

Job displacement is another concern associated with the integration of AI in the fashion industry. As certain tasks become automated, there is a possibility that some jobs could be replaced by AI systems.

But the biggest threat is undoubtedly the acceleration of what I call the Fake Age, a phenomenon which has emerged out of the evolution of social media, where people are unable to distinguish reality from the resemblance of reality.

Factual and impartial information will become increasingly lost in translation. This can have alarming consequences not only on a social level but also on the political arena in the world stage. Tech companies will be far too powerful.

Nonetheless, the integration of AI into the fashion industry holds immense potential for transforming various aspects of the fashion ecosystem. From personalised recommendations and innovative design insights to virtual try-on experiences, AI can enhance the way fashion brands interact with customers and create meaningful products.

However, it is crucial to address concerns related to privacy and security, and regulate the way it operates as soon as possible, ensuring AI is leveraged responsibly. By striking the right balance between human creativity and the power of AI, we can embark on an exciting journey that redefines fashion for the future.
