40x40

This livestream was triggered by the 40x40 initiative launched by the Duchess of Sussex on her 40th birthday. This project encourages people around the world to donate 40 minutes of their time to help women return to the workplace.

It’s important to clarify I love both the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex. They have different roles to play, and a high level of influence that can lead to much needed positive change in the world.

“Over 2 million in the US alone and tens of millions around the world have lost their jobs due to Covid, and I think if we all do it and all commit 40 minutes to some sort of act of service we can create a ripple effect.” Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex

You can read more about this initiative here. Even though I’m not a career coach, I’ve decided to participate and help someone preparing for an upcoming job interview. I’ve done quite a lot of research on this topic and benefitted from the mentorship offered by Smart Works.

Charlene Lopes was the first to get in touch with me. She actually had a job interview the following day! She gave me her permission to share an edited version of our livestream.

I hope you find it helpful, the main difficulty is to find enough resilience to carry on when you’re consistently being rejected. Actors go through this process all the time and they always get out of bed to go for auditions.

Job-hunting can be excruciating and feelings of hopelessness can become overwhelming at times. It’s important not dwell in the fall nor the reasons that led to it, the main point is to find a way to get up.

There’s an episode of Sex and the City, when Carrie falls on the catwalk wearing Dolce & Gabbana, and says: “when real people fall down in life, they get right back up and keep on walking.” It’s good to keep this in mind.
