Christmas Shopping Frenzy

Yes, it's that time of the year again. Cities dress up for the occasion and drive our attention away from the cold weather into their beautiful street lights and, at times, incredibly eye-catching window displays. Extra staff is hired to cope with the shopping frenzy, and this week Londoners even received advice on how to deal with the masses in Oxford street.

The best way to do your Christmas shopping is to really focus on the person you want to offer a gift to. What qualities do you value the most? What does he/she enjoy doing? What makes him/her smile? Once you find in your heart the gratitude of sharing your life with him/her, then you will know what to give.

Remember it's not about you. Be creative. If it's someone who has a full wardrobe and a well-dressed home, avoid shops altogether and think of offering a weekend in Paris, a massage in a luxury spa, satisfying a whispered wish, cooking his/her favourite dish, write a heartfelt note, book him/her a photography or dance course...

If shopping is unavoidable, plan ahead or buy online and have it all delivered. Make sure it's not something that will end up being thrown away after just a few days or months. Ask yourself, is this something he/she really needs or cherishes? If you are offering to children, bear in mind their enthusiasm is short lived, so avoid spending too much. The best way to be generous is to give hugs in abundance.

The most important gift is your time, presence and affection.
